Rogue in Forever

Rogue stays a melee damage class built around combo points, energy, and stealth. All three trees generate and spend combo points on a shared finisher kit, so the spec choice is mostly about how you build combo points and what the tree does with the energy you free up: Assassination leans on poison uptime and a guaranteed-crit cooldown, Combat leans on raw weapon damage and an energy-regeneration burst window, and Subtlety leans on cheap, mobile combo generators that keep the bleed on Rupture and the pressure on Hemorrhage rolling.

Assassination builds toward poison damage and a burst cooldown for a guaranteed critical strike on the finisher. Combat builds toward sustained weapon damage, doubling energy regeneration with Adrenaline Rush during its cooldown window. Subtlety builds toward cheap combo generation and mobility, using Hemorrhage or Ghostly Strike to keep pressure up between finishers.

None of the six race and class pairs Blizzard has named as new to Forever is a Rogue. Rogue does, however, pick up a new race outright: this site’s own combo data shows Rogue is playable by the Skyborne on both Alliance and Horde, with no faction restriction, since Skyborne itself is an entirely new race rather than a new pairing with an existing one.

What changed from 1.12: talent trees still run seven rows deep with 51 total points, but Forever slots in an extra one-point capstone-style pick at the 16-point mark, joining the three that classic builds already had at 11, 21 and 31 — four of these per tree now instead of three. Reading the same demo trees, one outlet counted 10 Rogue talents as brand new, another 25 as reworked, and the remaining 18 as untouched from 1.12. The most visible kit changes: Rogues can now wield one-handed axes, melee and spell hit and crit have folded down into single unified ratings, gear no longer carries a separate weapon-skill line, and a fresh stat cuts into how often a target dodges or parries an attack. Assassination and Subtlety also pick up talent-granted abilities that didn’t exist before — Mutilate and Venom in Assassination, Cutthroat in Subtlety — each adding a new line to how those two trees play.

Everything above the beta’s level-30 cap, including how any of this plays at 60 or in a raid, is a projection from demo-tree data and 1.12 knowledge rather than confirmed play — see each spec guide’s Overview for what’s confirmed versus projected.
